Minister responsible for Gaming and Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor MP, today announced the latest funding boost for community groups and non-profit organisations. “In the latest funding round, Southport received more than $102,000 through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, Mr Lawlor said.
“These grants are always a welcome and celebrated win for Queensland community groups.”
The Gambling Community Benefit Fund, which uses a percentage of state revenue raised through gambling activities, offers grants of up to $30,000 to enrich and enhance community-run organisations.
Grants of more than $30,000 are considered for more complex projects. “It is vital that the community benefit funds continue to contribute to local projects that develop or assist the Queensland community – giving back to those in need,” Mr Lawlor said.
“And the funding process has just become easier for Queensland community groups.”
A new and innovative online grants management system to help not-for-profit community organisations keep track of their funding applications will soon be launched by the State Government.
“From the beginning of this month, community groups can lodge their funding applications online – cutting the paper trail and reducing red tape,” Mr Lawlor said.
“The new electronic system will make applying for funding more manageable.”
Since the inception of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, more than $423 million has been provided for over 35,300 Queensland projects.
