Asked on 14 April 2010

MS GRACE ASKED THE MINISTER FOR TOURISM AND FAIR TRADING (MR LAWLOR) —

QUESTION:

Will the Minister provide an update on the status of licensed premises converting from glass to polycarbonate or tempered glass products?

ANSWER:

To date, 43 of the 77 licensed venues identified as potentially high risk have been directed to convert to non-regular glass products.

The majority of the 77 licensees have advised they have changed, or are in the process of changing over to non-regular glass.

Across the State, many Queensland licensees have demonstrated their commitment to patron and staff safety by voluntarily converting to non-regular glass.

Queensland’s largest hospitality group, Australian Liquor and Hospitality advised me in January that they intended to implement a staged roll out of tempered glass to all their licensed premises in Queensland.

I commend all the licensees who have proactively taken steps to move out of regular glass for taking the issue of patron safety seriously.
