Asked on 24 February 2010

MRS CUNNINGHAM ASKED THE MINISTER FOR TOURISM AND FAIR TRADING (MR LAWLOR)—

QUESTION:

With reference to reports that there is an increase in unlicensed operators undertaking fence construction, retaining walls and general renovations and that they are advertising in local papers—

What compliance audits are carried out by the department?

ANSWER:

The Office of Fair Trading is not responsible for licensing or regulating operators in the building and construction industries.

The Queensland Building Services Authority (BSA) is a statutory authority established to regulate the Queensland building industry.

This question would more appropriately be directed to the Honourable Robert Schwarten MP, Minister for Public Works and Information and Communication Technology whose portfolio responsibilities include the Building Services Authority.
