The Ministerial Diary

After my successful re-election campaign, I will return for a fourth term as the Member for Southport. Along with this important role I have been appointed as the new Minister of Tourism and Fair Trading. This position also includes the Racing and Liquor Licensing portfolios. During my time as Minister I will be visiting tourism icons all over Queensland and this page will keep track of my work. I encourage everyone to follow my travels as the Minister by reading below my entries into the Minister's Diary where I will write about my latest experiences. Peter Lawlor.

If you haven't experienced the Cobb and Co tourist drive which follows the old railway line and original road between Ipswich and Gatton then you don't know what you are missing. I had the pleasure of launching the new Cobb and Co tourist drive brochure this month which will help visitors driving through South East Queensland Country explore and reconnect with the historic Cobb and Co Tourist Drive. This is a fantastic initiative of the Ipswich City Council and Lockyer Valley Regional Council and I applaud them for it. The brochure has been designed to showcase the variety of tourism experiences along the route and encourages travellers to get off the Warrego Highway. The recently revived route starts at the award-winning workshops Rail Museum in Ipswich and meanders through scenic towns and country roads in Ipswich and the Lockyer Valley, ending at the Cobb and Co Museum in Toowoomba. Drive tourism is an important market for Queensland with 15.5 million domestic visitors to Queensland in the year ending March 2010 of which 8.5 million used a car to get to their Queensland holiday destination. In addition, the greater South East Queensland country region annually receives approximately 15 percent of all domestic visitors to Queensland. The brochures will be available from tourist visitor centres across South East Queensland Country.
