Fair Trading ensures you get eggsactly what you pay for this Easter

Aspiring Easter bunnies can buy their chocolate with confidence this year after inspections found that products are delivering on their promises.

Minister for Fair Trading Peter Lawlor said fair trading inspectors checked more than 200 items throughout March, including chocolate eggs, bunnies, bilbies and other novelty chocolates on sale at this time of year, from a wide range of retailers across Queensland.

“Fair Trading officials found that every item inspected complied with Queensland’s trade measurement legislation,” Mr Lawlor said.

“This means consumers can buy confectionary this Easter with the knowledge that they are getting what they are paying for.”

He said Fair Trading found the best value-for-money chocolate this Easter was a one kilogram bag of solid chocolate eggs, which was priced comparably to a chocolate bar.

The most expensive item inspected was a bag of diabetic eggs and novelties which equated to a staggering $119.90 per kilogram.

“These findings provide a powerful illustration of the benefits consumers will gain from compulsory unit pricing, which will make it easier to compare the value of different products which come in a variety of sizes,” Mr Lawlor said.
