Handy tips on avoiding common pitfalls when buying a home are on offer this weekend by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) at the 2010 Brisbane Home Buyer and Property Investor Show (19-20 June).
Fair Trading Minister Peter Lawlor said he encouraged visitors to drop by the OFT’s information booth and to also attend a free, half-hour real estate seminar designed to help people save time, money and hassles when buying property.
“A home is the biggest financial investment most people make in their lifetime,” Mr Lawlor said.
“Before purchasing you need to be aware of common pitfalls so you can avoid making them yourself, which is where the information and seminar can help with keeping you informed.
“In the seminar, OFT staff will outline a wide range of helpful tips from dealing with finance brokers, using interest free loans and understanding comparison rates.
“The seminar will also help you determine what should be in a credit contract, the importance of selecting the right real estate agent and how to shop around for the best deal.”
The seminar will be held from 4.00pm-4.30pm on both days of the Expo.
The 2010 Brisbane Home Buyer and Property Investor Show will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, South Brisbane.
Last year’s event attracted more than 4,500 visitors and almost 100 exhibitors including state and federal government agencies, banks and mortgage brokers, property industry associations and builders.
