Have tent, please camp – that’s what Queenslanders are being asked to do this month for a Great Aussie Camp out.
The Bligh Government and the Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation are teaming up to get Queenslanders active and into the great outdoors, or even just camping in the backyard on Saturday 17 April.
Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor) said the Bligh Government had contributed $10,000 towards the event.
“I encourage everyone to pack up their tents and get out to a local campsite on Great Aussie Camp Out Day,” Mr Lawlor said.
“Camping is an affordable and accessible form of outdoor recreation and gives us all the chance to access our great Queensland outdoors.
“Already, Girl Guides Queensland, Boys Brigade and Scouts have committed to joining the Great Aussie Camp Out, and it’s a great opportunity for the rest of Queensland to get out and enjoy the diverse Queensland landscape.”
Mr Lawlor said the event would help the Bligh Government work towards its goal of making Queenslanders Australia’s healthiest people.
“Under our Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland initiative, we want to cut obesity rates by one third by 2020,” he/she said.
The Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation developed the Camp Out concept, and has the backing of local governments, recreation organisations and not-for-profit organisations around the state.
