Peter Lawlor has blasted the National Party on their failure to finalise their stance on the proposed Carrara Stadium upgrade. The Southport MP has criticised the National Party for still taking the Gold Coast for granted after listening to radio interview with MP Ray Stevens on the ABC this morning.
“It’s about time the National Party members and candidates took a stand for the Gold Coast and stopped using weasel words to justify Mr Springborgs description of the proposed upgrade of Carrara Stadium as a “waste of money”.” Mr Lawlor said. “Ray Stevens said on ABC radio this morning that he supports the Carrara proposal and that Lawrence Springborg “is at one with me on this”. “But Mr Springborg is quoted today as “denouncing Labors pledge of $60 million for the stadium (Gold Coast Bulletin), “Mr Stevens uses the phrase “quite clearly” five times in the short interview but the position of the Gold Coast National Party members and candidates is quite unclear “Mr Springborg has said the $60 million should be spent on hospitals, that is less than 4% of the cost of the Gold Coast University Hospital.” Mr Lawlor said. “But has he ever driven past Parklands, where right now there are bulldozers, graders and workmen working on the construction of the $1.55 billion Gold Coast University Hospital?”
“Has he never been to Robina Hospital where right now the Government is spending $287 million to double the bed capacity to 360?” “It’s about time the Gold Coast had some support from the National Party.” Mr Lawlor said.
“Gold Coast National Party candidates should stop listening to Clive Palmer and Lawrence Springborg and unconditionally stick up for Gold Coast jobs. Last changed: [PUBLISHED_DATE] at 4:03 PM
