Member for Southport Peter Lawlor said the Queensland Government committed $47,980 to fund the S.T.E.P project through the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative. “People with a disability will step up to greater careers through this project giving them the confidence to face future employment options,” Mr Lawlor said. “People with a disability will step up to greater careers through this project giving them the confidence to face future employment options,” Mr Lawlor said. “Students will have the advantage of tailored, on-the-job work experience with qualified disability support staff in place at all times to ensure optimal outcomes.
“On completion of this project participants will develop the skills and understanding that could lead to traineeships or entry-level work in a range of industry sectors.”
Mr Lawlor said the project will provide the foundation for many people with a disability to integrate into local business on the Gold Coast.
“The community will benefit greatly from a project like this providing the Southport business district with a wider employment bank of skilled workers,” he said.
FSG Australia Operations Manager Kim West said many doors will open for people with a disability as a result of the training. “Participants will be able to get work experience with the FGA Australia’s green shop, catering or courier service, maintenance department or nursery,” Ms West said. “This training approach enhances the individual’s capacity to make positive vocational choices and ultimately attain paid or voluntary employment or seek further training.”
“FSG will assist people who are seeking to attain sustainable employment addressing the current Commonwealth requirement for people with a disability to work a minimum of 15 hours a week.
