 Queensland general election - March 21, 2009

Premier Anna Bligh MP has called a general election to be held on 21 March 2009.

I am your candidate for Southport. I have worked hard to represent the people of Southport on the issues that are important, such as protecting the Broadwater, improving our health care system and maintaining high standards in police and emergency services. If elected, I will continue to campaign on your behalf.

I am passionate about Southport, having lived in the electorate for more than 50 years, and passionate about securing it's future.

Please get out and vote on Saturday March 21. Voting is compulsory.

Griffith University Parking Letter

Election 2009 >>

Dear Resident,

Over the past few weeks I have had several phone calls regarding the number of students parking in the residential streets in your area.

As you are aware, parking is the responsibility of the Gold Coast City Council and I understand that parking tickets have recently been issued to those breaching the parking by-laws.

From my discussions with contractors associated with the new Gold Coast University Hospital I can advise as follows:-

1.         Bovis Lend Lease have instructed their workers to park on the Gold Coast University Hospital site;

2.         Two car parks with a combined capacity of up to 3000 car parks will be built on Gold
Coast University Hospital site asap;

3.         The construction program takes into account the importance of
minimising the impact on surrounding precinct so car parks will be first thing to be built so that construction workers can park on the Gold Coast Hospital University Hospital site.

Obviously the above steps will do little to alleviate the parking problems in the short term however I am having further discussions with Griffith University to ascertain what further steps can be taken.
