Korean credit cards to feature Tropical North Queensland

Thirty of Korea’s most popular bloggers are touring and photographing Tropical North Queensland this week in a tourism initiative to keep the beauty of the region top-of-mind for up to 10 million Koreans, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said.

Mr Lawlor said the trip was part of a Tourism Queensland-led campaign in partnership with Korean giant Samsung, which will see the bloggers’ photographs of Tropical North Queensland printed on Samsung credit cards.

“Following the success of a similar campaign brokered by Tourism Queensland last year, Tourism Queensland and Samsung have teamed up again to develop new customer-designed credit cards that feature images of our Tropical North,” he said.

“These credit cards will remind every card-holder of the beauty of the Tropical North each time they open their wallet, increasing exposure and awareness across Korea.”

Mr Lawlor said the campaign was even bigger this year with Korea’s most highly-followed bloggers touring and photographing Cairns, Cape Tribulation and Port Douglas, then providing the photos to be printed on credit cards.

“They will photograph flying foxes in the Daintree Rainforest, sailing on the Great Barrier Reef, native Australian wildlife, Kuranda Skyrail and Scenic Railway, Cairns Crocodile Farm and the Australian Muster Experience, along with a variety of hotels and resorts throughout the regions,” Mr Lawlor said.

“Approximately 10 million Korean Samsung credit card holders will have the opportunity to have one of these images applied as the background on their card.

“More than 70,000 Koreans came to Queensland in 2008, injecting $193 million into the Queensland economy and supporting 500 jobs,” Mr Lawlor said.
