Langbroek contradicted by his own MPs on Liquor Licensing Moratorium

The Opposition has again been caught contradicting themselves, this time over the Bligh Government’s Moratorium on Liquor Licensing applications for extended trading hours.

Tourism and Fair Trading Minister Peter Lawlor said Opposition Leader John-Paul Langbroek’s rejection of the moratorium had been undermined by overwhelming support for the policy from within his own party.

“Mr Langbroek came out yesterday labeling the Government’s Moratorium a media stunt,” Mr Lawlor said.

“But today, one of his Shadow Cabinet Ministers has strongly voiced his support.

“The Member for Noosa has described the Moratorium as ‘a victory’ for his local residents[1].

“What’s more, the Member for Buderim has told his local radio station he welcomed the move[2], and the LNP’s candidate for Toowoomba North at the recent State Election has also come out praising this ‘sensible decision’[3].

“The Opposition Leader clearly does not have the backing of his own party members, who at least are happy to acknowledge a sensible decision when they see one.

“Mr Langbroek should listen to his colleagues and get behind the Government’s moratorium.

“He has no policy for curbing the shocking trend of violence at late-night venues, even though this is an issue the people of his own electorate are concerned about.

“All he is interested in is knocking the Government, despite having no alternative ideas. The people of Queensland deserve better.”
