Minister responsible for liquor regulation Peter Lawlor is reminding the State’s liquor licensees to pay their annual fees on time.
Approximately 30% of Queensland premises have already paid their 2010-11 liquor licensing fees.
Mr Lawlor said fees from the State’s 6700 licensed venues were due on 2 August and higher fees would apply to licensed premises which had an adverse compliance history during the past 12 months.
“With almost 5000 venues expected to pay their fees in the next few weeks we expect it will be a busy time for the staff at the licensing section of the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation,” Mr Lawlor said.
“Fees go towards funding compliance activities and community education campaigns which help boost safety in and around licensed venues,” he said.
Risk-based liquor licensing fees were first introduced in January 2009, following industry consultation.
“The fees were established to ensure the liquor industry plays its part in contributing to the cost of regulating the liquor industry and minimising liquor related harm,” said Minister Lawlor.
If payment is not received by 2 August, the liquor licence will be suspended under the provisions of the Liquor Act 1992.
If the fee remains unpaid for 28 days after the licence is suspended, the licence will be cancelled.
