Revellers will again be able to celebrate longer on New Year’s Eve as pubs and clubs with earlier closing times will have their trading hours extended to 2am.
Minister responsible for Liquor Licensing, Peter Lawlor today confirmed the majority of licensed premises throughout Queensland will be entitled to trade until 2am—or later where their approved trading hours permit—on 1 January 2010.
“New Year’s Eve is one of the biggest celebrations of the year and it makes sense licensed venues trade later on this occasion,” Mr Lawlor said.
The 3am lockout will also be relaxed on New Year’s Eve so people can frequent various licensed premises until the 5am closing time.
“Of course Queenslanders are encouraged to drink responsibly, as always,” he said.
“There will be more people out and about so remember to show consideration and respect towards others, so everybody can enjoy a safe New Year’s celebration.”
Pubs and clubs which normally trade until 3am and 5am will continue trading to these times as usual.
As well, Police and liquor compliance officers will be out in force throughout Queensland ensuring safety at licensed venues.
Liquor compliance officers will especially be keeping an eye out for minors at licensed premises or drinking alcohol in public places.
“I want all Queenslanders to start the New Year in an enjoyably and safe fashion,” Mr Lawlor said. Last changed: Jan 07 2010 at 2:28 PM
