Tourism Queensland’s ‘Open for Business’ campaign encouraging visitors to continue to come to the Sunshine Coast following last month’s oil spill will be extended to New Zealand, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said.
“With the clean-up on the Sunshine Coast completed, it’s important we get the message out to consumers in our key markets who may be under the misapprehension that our beaches and islands are closed,” he said.
“New Zealand is the Sunshine Coast’s largest international market accounting for 29 percent of all international visitors.
“The campaign is run in partnership with Flight Centre, the largest wholesaler of Sunshine Coast products in New Zealand, and with local tourism operators.
“80,000 tourists from New Zealand holidayed at the Sunshine Coast in 2008, supporting more than 1000 Queensland jobs, but local tourism operators are concerned that the publicity generated by the spill could negatively impact on holiday business, so it’s important we move quickly to keep Queensland destinations top-of-mind.
“The $AUD180,000 Tourism Queensland campaign began on Sunday and is being run in New Zealand.
“It includes television, press and magazine advertising, brochures, website promotions, electronic direct mail, store window banners and a Flight Centre flier.
“Travellers will be able to book the campaign special offers up to October this year, encompassing the peak travel periods of New Zealand’s winter and spring school holidays.
“The Sunshine Coast is definitely open for business.” Last changed: Oct 06 2009 at 2:06 PM
