Ray Stevens and the LNP refuses to support the Queensland tourism industry during these tough economic times.
Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said that despite masquerading as the alternative government of Queensland the LNP have failed to deliver an alternative funding and tourism policy for Queensland.
“We saw at the last election the LNP deny there was a global financial crisis and promise to cut 12,000 jobs,” Mr Lawlor said.
“Then they try and surprise us with the old news that there have been job losses during these tough economic times.
“They had the golden opportunity to deliver a tourism policy outlining a recovery from the global financial crisis but rather opted to cut the $12million airline attraction program.
“Ever since the election all we have seen from the shadow tourism spokesperson are press releases.
“This is the sign of a party with no plans or policies for Queensland.”
Mr Lawlor said the LNP had turned its back on tourism at every opportunity including refusing protection of the Great Barrier Reef, cutting airline attraction funding and pulling support of major tourism infrastructure.
“While Ray writes press releases the Bligh Government will build a $60million AFL Stadium for the Gold Coast tourism industry.
“While Ray dodges restaurant bills the Bligh Government will spend an extra $12million a year marketing small business and operators nationally and internationally.
“While Ray helps plot the demise of opposition leader John Paul Langbrook the Bligh Government will continue investing $12million in attracting airline services and infrastructure to Queensland.
“The Bligh Government promised at the last election to invest in tourism - we stand by that commitment.
“The LNP needs to support tourism and not constantly put down the hard work of our operators.
“The LNP are economic and environmental vandals – getting a tourism policy out of them is like trying to split a bill when someone spoiled it by ordering champagne and mud crab.” Last changed: Oct 06 2009 at 3:38 PM
