The TransLink Transit Authority will again fund extra bus services for Schoolies celebrations at the Gold Coast from this Friday [November 21].

Member for Southport Peter Lawlor said TransLink will fund 49 new early morning bus services along the Gold Coast Highway between Surfers Paradise and Burleigh Heads.

“This is a great initiative allowing school leavers to get home safely and quickly in the early hours of the morning,” said Mr Lawlor.

“Surfers Paradise sees a great number of schoolies enter Cavil Avenue, but all of them are not staying there,

“Combine this with the usual Saturday night patrons of Surfers Paradise and you will have a very full bus.”

“These extra services will help solve this.”

A TransLink Transit Authority spokesman said mobile security patrols would be in place at Palm Beach and Surfers Paradise hotspots.
There will be two security guards on standby from Sunday to Thursday (8pm-6am) and six guards on Friday and Saturday (8pm-6am). There will be two additional mobile patrols in place for Schoolies.

The additional bus services, run by local bus company Surfside Bus Lines, will run from Friday, November 21 to Friday, December 5 to cater for Queensland and New South Wales revellers.
