The Ministerial Diary

After my successful re-election campaign, I will return for a fourth term as the Member for Southport. Along with this important role I have been appointed as the new Minister of Tourism and Fair Trading. This position also includes the Racing and Liquor Licensing portfolios. During my time as Minister I will be visiting tourism icons all over Queensland and this page will keep track of my work. I encourage everyone to follow my travels as the Minister by reading below my entries into the Minister's Diary where I will write about my latest experiences. Peter Lawlor.

Jetstar has announced it will operate a bi-weekly service from Queenstown to the Gold Coast from December this year which is fantastic news for the Queensland Tourism industry. This will contribute over 350 seats or a nine percent increase to the region's international capacity from New Zealand each week. December could not a better month to commence the route as it's the first month of the summer season and the best time of year to book a holiday on the Gold Coast. As well as targeting the Australian and New Zealand markets, Jetstar will also promote the flights to international tourists/ This will be a very attractive option for international tourists from Japan and South east Asia who can spend a few days in Queenstown and a few days at the Gold Coast. The strength of the Gold Coast tourism industry is in part reliant on the continued support of our aviation partners and we warmly welcome the commencement of the new Queenstowns to Gold Coast flight route. I am sure the local tourism industry will join me in congratulating Jetstar on the instalment of this new service and lay out a warm welcome mat to our first Queenstown visitor arriving on this service.
