New Year sale sells Sunshine Coast holidays to south-east Queensland

South-east Queenslanders will have the chance to save up to 60 percent on a Sunshine Coast new year break with the launch of a new marketing campaign, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor announced today.

Mr Lawlor said The Sun, Sand, Surf and Savings sale would begin on Saturday 30 January with major online accommodation provider Wotif.com, but deals would be available for one week only.

“Sensational Sunshine Coast holidays will be on sale for up to 60 percent off the regular rate for this time of year in a bid to entice south-east Queenslanders to the coast for a new year break,” Mr Lawlor said.

“You will have to be quick however as the fantastic deals will only be available for a week so I’d advise holidaymakers not to think too long before booking or they’ll miss out.

“The other good news, for people who book their holiday during the campaign period is that the travel period extends over the Easter holiday period so there is an opportunity to grab a real bargain if you book during the sale.”

Mr Lawlor said the print, online and radio campaign was a joint initiative of Tourism Queensland in partnership with Australia’s number one online accommodation provider, Wotif.com.

“Wotif.com is renowned for providing holidaymakers with great value deals and working in partnership enables us to generate recognition for the type of offers available as part of the campaign,” he said.

“Our aim through this targeted online retail campaign is to support the local tourism industry through the traditionally slower months of February and March.

“It’s ultimately about reminding people that the Sunshine Coast’s stunning beaches and unbeatable lifestyle are an affordable and accessible holiday option for south-east Queenslanders to consider as they ease their way back into work.”

Wotif.com General Manager Brand Megan Magill said that the Sunshine Coast was always popular for bookings through Wotif.com.

“The Sunshine Coast jumped from number 12 to number 8 on our top destinations list in 2009, and we expect to see the numbers continuing to increase in the region,” Ms Magill said.

Mr Lawlor said Tourism Queensland was currently focusing efforts on communicating the ‘holiday at home’ message by highlighting a range of affordable travel options available in Queensland.

“It has been a challenging 12 months for the Queensland tourism industry and it’s encouraging to see partnerships such as these continuing to encourage Queenslanders to holiday at home,” he said.
