Budding travel writers have just two days left to tell the world what a Queensland holiday means to them as part of Tourism Queensland’s latest Facebook campaign, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said today.
Mr Lawlor said the competition which closes this Friday 6 August at 1pm had so far received a fantastic response with 363 entries currently on display.
“The competition is open to a global audience and is being judged by award-winning Queensland authors Nick Earls and Rebecca Sparrow as well as travel blogger extraordinaire and former Best Job in the World Island Caretaker Ben Southall,” Mr Lawlor said.
“We invited travellers from around the globe to tell the Queensland Facebook page’s 30,000 followers in 300 characters or less what a Queensland holiday means to them.
“More than 780 people have connected with the Queensland Facebook page since the campaign commenced on 23 July.”
Mr Lawlor said the Tourism Queensland initiative was about sharing holiday stories and experiences and harnessing people’s passion for Queensland.
“Browsing through the entries, it’s clear to see people’s passion for Queensland,” he said.
“Examples of entries include, A Queensland Holiday is …? “A Masterchef’s Delight!”, “A dream, once taken, never forgotten”, “Having a Bundy in Bundy, a surf in Surfers.”
Mr Lawlor said one of the great things about the Facebook competition was that people were able to share their Queensland holiday stories and experiences.
“People who haven’t holidayed in Queensland before can also apply by writing to us and telling us what a Queensland holiday would mean to them as a first-time visitor,” he said.
“The top five entries will receive a $500 holiday voucher to use on a Queensland getaway and winners will be announced on the 12 August.
"I would encourage everyone to log on to www.facebook.com/Queensland and get behind the competition and tell us what a Queensland holiday means to you.”
