MR RICKUSS ASKED THE MINISTER FOR TOURISM AND FAIR TRADING (MR LAWLOR) —

QUESTION:

With reference to Service Stream Holding Ltd (ACN09832617), an installer in the Queensland Solar Hot Water program—

How many contracts has this company not completed and how much money is it holding in consumer deposits for incomplete contracts?

ANSWER:

I assume the member is referring to Service Stream Holdings Pty Ltd (ACN008027978).

There is no legislative requirement for any business including solar installation businesses to advise the Office of Fair Trading of contracts completed or deposit monies held.

If, during a complaint investigation into a trader’s activities, the Office of Fair Trading believes there is a reason to request information on contractual agreements or monies held, this information might be requested to ensure compliance with fair trading legislation.

I can advise the Office of Fair Trading has not received any complaints against Service Stream Holdings Pty Ltd relating to unfinished contracts or deposit monies held.

I am also advised that Service Stream Holdings Pty Ltd are not contracted to the Queensland Solar Hot Water Program - they are sub-contractors to one of the contracted entities. As such, Service Stream Holdings Pty Ltd does not hold any monies on behalf of customers in their own right - funds are placed into an account established and operated by the contractor responsible for installations for respective customers.
