Peter Lawlor, Member for Southport today called on locals to get involved in celebrating everything that’s great about Queensland during Queensland Week 2010. “Queensland Week runs from 29 May and ends on Queensland Day on 6 June,” said Mr Lawlor “It’s a great opportunity for Queenslanders to enjoy the best the state has to offer, reflect on our achievements as a State and remember what it truly means to be a Queenslander” Last year’s Q150 focus meant Queenslanders turned out in strong numbers to celebrate Queensland Week and this year provides an opportunity to enjoy it all over again. “Queensland week will be filled with BBQs, comedy, award celebrations, film, food, citizenship ceremonies and lamington demonstrations.” The celebrations begin with a Queensland Week Citizenship Ceremony on Saturday 29 May 2010 at Suncorp Piazza, the Parklands, Southbank from 9.30am to 10.30am where more than 700 new citizens will pledge their commitment to Australia and the State of Queensland The week long celebrations will culminate with Queensland Day on 6 June, when the RACQ Big BBQ will welcome families to enjoy a fun-filled free day out at Roma Street Parkland. Local Gold Coast events include:- Monster Machinery Day James Overell Park, Brighton Parade, Southport Sunday 30th May 9.00am – 2.00pm Free entry One-way Festival (non-government site) (Part of the Surfers Paradise Festival) Alison and Appel Streets, Southside Surfers Paradise Saturday 5th June 3.00pm – 8.00pm Free entry eat week (non-government site) (part of Surfers Paradise Festival) Participating restaurants and cafes throughout Surfers Paradise (listed on website) Monday 31 May to Sunday 6 June 2010
