Schools at Arundel and Southport are among 92 non-state schools to share in State Government capital assistance funding to improve and expand facilities.
Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, said the Bligh Government was committed to ensuring all schools had high-quality, relevant facilities that serve the needs of students.
“St Hilda's School at Southport will receive $438,697 from the $100 million Tomorrow's Schools infrastructure program to remove asbestos from two roofs, ceilings, walls and soffits and to upgrade its ICT network,” Mr Lawlor said.
“A B Paterson College at Arundel will receive $1,680 from the program to upgrade its ICT network.
“The grants scheme will enable these school communities to get these much-needed projects off the ground.
“Our Government is building tomorrow’s Queensland by investing in school infrastructure.
“First-class facilities are essential to deliver world-class education and training to Queensland’s children and young people.”
Education and Training Minister Rod Welford said the State Government recognised the importance of all schools in their local communities.
“Some parents prefer alternative options to the state school system and it is important for the Government to support these options,” Mr Welford said.
“Parents can be assured these grants will help the schools and their staff to continue to deliver a high standard of education for their children.”
The State Government strongly supports the non-state school sector and in the 2008-09 budget allocated $50.4 million in capital assistance. Last changed: [PUBLISHED_DATE] at 1:38 AM
