Following today’s announcement of the finalist photos in Tourism Australia’s “There’s Nothing Like Australia” competition, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor is urging Queensland residents to get behind the final Queensland entry.
Mr Lawlor said Queenslanders could vote online for the stunning Queensland image which captured a little boy‘s close encounter with a huge Maori Wrasse fish on the Great Barrier Reef off Cairns.
“Tourism Australia’s photographic competition has given Australians the opportunity to share their favourite holiday snapshots, and Queensland’s final photo is a great example of just one of the iconic Queensland experiences on offer to domestic and international tourists,” Mr Lawlor said.
“The snapshot also provides a great chance for Queenslanders to show their support by voting and letting the world know there’s nothing like living and holidaying in Queensland.” Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall said the pic taken in Tropical North Queensland was up against seven other photos from the Australian states and territories.
“Queenslanders got right behind our state’s entries in the early part of this campaign, so I know they’ll be inspired to vote for this beautiful iconic Queensland image,” he said.
“I encourage my fellow Queenslanders to go online and vote for our photo at www.nothinglikeaustralia.com.
“Tropical North Queensland is just one of our fantastic holiday destinations here in Queensland, so let’s get voting and share this with Australia and the world.
“Let’s prove that Queensland truly is Australia’s top tourism destination.”
The Queensland finalist photo is competing against photos of Purnululu in Western Australia, Uluru in the Northern Territory, Flinders Chase in South Australia, Cradle Mountain in Tasmania, Milsons Point in New South Wales, Melbourne CBD in Victoria and Parkes in the ACT.
The competition will close at midnight on Tuesday 29 June.
The finalist to receive the most votes will win the grand prize of an Australian holiday valued at $25,000.
Votes can be cast by visiting www.nothinglikeaustralia.com.
