A new marketing campaign focused on enticing southerners to escape winter by holidaying in Tropical North Queensland will start tomorrow, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said.
“Tourism Queensland’s Winter Escapes for Just a Drop in the Ocean campaign runs for the next two weeks in Sydney and Melbourne and is valued at $260,000,” Mr Lawlor said. “It is supported by Tourism Tropical North Queensland and 32 local operators, and aims to promote and increase visitation to Tropical North Queensland by offering competitive holiday packages.
“The campaign will feature in the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, as well as online at www.changeyourlatitude.com.au.
“Winter Escapes for Just a Drop in the Ocean aims to appeal to Sydneysiders and Melbournites wanting a break from the cold, wet winter, by promoting the range of exciting and relaxing experiences available in Tropical North Queensland.
“While people down south are turning on their heaters, reaching for their raincoats and getting stuck in traffic jams, they’ll realise they could be relaxing in the sunshine of our Tropical North.”
Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister for Tourism and Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall said the State Government and Tourism Queensland’s current focus was on hard-hitting tactical marketing campaigns which involved operators from across Queensland, including those involved with the Winter Escapes for Just a Drop in the Ocean campaign.
“More than 1.4 million domestic visitors went to Tropical North Queensland in the 12 months to March 2009, supporting 7000 Queensland jobs.
“The Queensland Government is committed to increasing tourism and will continue to work to ensure the future of Queensland’s tourism industry remains bright.”
