Sunshine Coast tourism operators learning to weather the storm

Helping Sunshine Coast tourism businesses prepare for possible severe weather events is the topic of a workshop being run by Tourism Queensland in Twin Waters on Thursday 10 December.

Minister for Tourism Peter Lawlow said the “Weatherproof Your Business” workshop would help operators prepare for the worst should extreme weather strike.

“While Queensland boasts some of the best weather in the world, like any tropical region, it can also be prone to sudden bursts of severe weather-related events,” Mr Lawlor said.

“The “Weatherproof Your Business” workshop aims to help Sunshine Coast tourism operators plan for events that may affect their ability to do business and recover as quickly as possible once the event has passed.

“We want our operators to be as resilient as possible in the face of potential challenges to their livelihoods.

Tourism Queensland Acting CEO Steve McRoberts said the workshop will help employers ensure their customers and staff are safe, that they are not losing money longer than necessary, that their staff are back at work as quickly as possible and that visitors can be welcomed back sooner rather than later.

"The “Weatherproof Your Business” workshop runs for three hours and help operators deal with severe events from cyclones to bushfires.

“Participants will be taken step-by-step through incident response planning and, by the end of the workshop, will have their own plan which they can take back to their business.

“I encourage operators to attend this workshop and help protect their businesses by coming away with their own tailored incident response plans.”

The “Weatherproof Your Business” workshop will be held in Twin Waters on Thursday 10 December from 10am – 1pm.

For more information and to register, tourism operators should go to www.tq.com.au/weatherproofyourbusiness.

RSVP by the 9 December.
