Southport teachers are being recognised this week for their innovative teaching practice and their length of service to state school education. Member for Southport Peter Lawlor today congratulated 10 recipients of Teacher Excellence Career Milestones and 25 Year Service Medallions as part of World Teachers’ Day celebrations. “World Teachers’ Day is celebrated in Queensland this Friday,” Mr/Mrs X said. “The day highlights the efforts of Queensland teachers and support staff who have made a difference to the lives of thousands of children across the State.” “Today we recognise the contribution of our longest serving teachers and acknowledge innovative teaching practice in our State Schools. “Since 2002, the Teacher Excellence Career Milestones have recognised teaching service by state school teachers who celebrate their 5th, 10th or 20th year anniversaries. “The teachers in Southport will join more than 1550 teachers who have collectively dedicated more than 22,500 years to educating state school students.”
Mr Lawlor said the Bligh Government was supporting teachers by investing more than $48 million in professional development for school and TAFE teachers. “We’re investing in professional development to support literacy and numeracy programs in our schools and to encourage our students to study science.
“This is a wise investment that will benefit Queensland students,” he said. “I encourage all teachers to undergo professional development and thank them for their dedicated service to our students.” Last changed: [PUBLISHED_DATE] at 10:02 AM
