The launch of new Tiger Airways’ Adelaide – Brisbane services from next March will potentially bring a new generation of South Australian holidaymakers to south-east Queensland, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said today.
Mr Lawlor welcomed Tiger Airways’ announcement that from March 28, 2010 it would offer up to daily flights between Adelaide and Brisbane starting at $98.
“This new route will be great for both business and leisure travellers and will make access into south-east Queensland easier and more cost-effective for South Australians,” Mr Lawlor said.
“Tiger Airways’ announcement will also open Brisbane up to a new generation of South Australian holidaymakers as, with flights starting from just $98 one-way, Brisbane is perfectly placed to become an ideal short-break destination.
“Other parts of south-east Queensland will also benefit as it will be a simple matter to pick up a hire car at the airport and drive to any number of destinations in just an hour or two.”
Mr Lawlor said the new services would add up to 1260 weekly seats into Brisbane from Adelaide.
He said 100,000 South Australians spent 464,000 nights in Brisbane in the year ending June 2009.
“These new flights will start just in time for the peak Easter holiday period so the timing couldn’t be better,” he said. Last changed: Nov 10 2009 at 9:48 AM
