MR STEVENS ASKED THE MINISTER FOR TOURISM AND FAIR TRADING (MR LAWLOR)–
QUESTION:
Will the Minister provide all details relating to any financial support and/or grants given by Tourism Queensland or any other area of the government to Jetstar to support and secure their scheduled flights from Cairns to Osaka, Japan to begin in April 2010?
ANSWER:
No financial grants have been given by Tourism Queensland or any other area of government to Jetstar to support and secure their flights from Cairns to Osaka scheduled to recommence in April 2010. However Tourism Queensland will be working with Jetstar on a cooperative marketing plan to promote the reinstated route to the Japanese market.
The Osaka – Cairns route, due to recommence in April 2010, will provide more than 1200 weekly seats into Cairns. The tourism industry, particularly in Tropical North Queensland, is still heavily reliant on visitors from Japan for survival so Tourism Queensland and the Queensland Government are committed to the long-term viability of this route.
