MR STEVENS ASKED THE MINISTER FOR TOURISM AND FAIR TRADING (MR LAWLOR) —
QUESTION:
How much has been spent by Tourism Queensland on marketing to attract the lucrative Japanese wedding market to North Queensland?
ANSWER:
Tourism Queensland focuses on promoting Tropical North Queensland to the Japanese market as a whole, however it does engage in some niche market activities such as world bridal campaign and honeymoon promotions.
In 2009-10 Tourism Queensland has allocated $37,000 of its Japan marketing budget towards marketing focused on the attraction of the Japanese wedding market to Tropical North Queensland.
However this is just a small percentage of the approximately $1 million Tourism Queensland has allocated towards attracting the Japanese market to Tropical North Queensland in 2009-10.
Tourism Queensland undertakes a range of activities to increase awareness of Tropical North Queensland in Japan. Some examples of these activities include airline partnerships, familiarisations with Japanese trade in Tropical North Queensland, Aussie Specialist seminars and training in Japan, and attending Japanese trade shows.
