Queensland hotel diners will get a complimentary glass of wine with their meal in June as part of a special Queensland Week wine promotion to put more of the State’s award-winning local drops under the spotlight.

Minister Tourism and Fair Trading Peter Lawlor said the Queensland Hotels Association, the Queensland Wine Industry Association and the Queensland Government had teamed up to showcase the array of quality, locally produced wines.

”Hotel restaurant patrons will receive a complimentary glass of local wine when purchasing a meal at lunchtime in twelve South East Queensland hotels,” he said.

“These places will list the Queensland wines on their wine menu for six weeks from June 6.

“I congratulate the Queensland Hotels Association on their initiative to highlight Queensland wines in many of their hotel restaurants across the state and I urge all Queenslanders to support our local wines and local produce.”

Mr Lawlor said it was great to see many home-grown wines already available at leading hotels and restaurants.

”Over the past decade, the volume of wine produced in Queensland has increased more than tenfold and in Brisbane alone, more than 700 outlets are stocking and selling Queensland wine – and the list is growing,” he said.

Mr Lawlor said the promotion precedes with a Q150 Queensland Government initiative, the Queensland Wine Appreciation Marquee, to be held at South Bank on Saturday 13 June 2009 (Little Stanley Street).
.
“The marquee will be run as part of South Bank’s Regional Flavours, a food and wine market that will showcase more than 80 South East Queensland producers from Granite Belt, North and South Burnett, Darling Downs, Scenic Rim and Gold Coast.,” he said.

“There will be four Queensland wine appreciation sessions run by Ms Paula Tewksbury, a professional wine educator from All About Wine. Each session will feature a different selection of Queensland wines that visitors will be able to sample.

Entry to each session is $5 per person (all entrants must be 18+) and includes a complimentary gift bag. Entry to Regional Flavours is free.
