Unreal deals to reel in visitors to Queensland

A new $1 million Tourism Queensland marketing campaign aims to lure budget-sensitive Australians to the state with a variety of deals, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said today.

Mr Lawlor said Queensland’s Unreal Deals campaign, in partnership with wholesaler Sunlover Holidays, was promoting over 150 deals from over 130 operators across Queensland and was aimed at attracting visitors during the tight economic climate.

“This campaign will target the Sydney and Melbourne market, as well as holidaymakers in Brisbane and other parts of the country,” Mr Lawlor said.

“It will run from mid July until 23 August and promote packages that are simply ‘the best deals on the best Queensland holidays’.

“The campaign includes television, press, radio and online components to reach our metropolitan target markets on the east coast.

“Travellers to destinations across Queensland will be able to book accommodation specials on three to seven night stays, day tours and cruises.

“For example, there are great deals such as three nights for the price of two from $109 per person, twin share.

“There’s no doubt that people have become price conscious when considering their holiday and travel options and this campaign is an enticement to visit Queensland’s idyllic holiday destinations at a great rate.”

Mr Lawlor said the Unreal Deals campaign continued Tourism Queensland’s tradition of innovative retail marketing campaigns - including the Bonus Breaks, Too Easy and Open for Business campaigns - which aimed to support the state’s tourism operators in tough times.

"It also coincides with a Queensland holiday bidding war which erupts this afternoon when Tourism Queensland's 2009 Ultimate Auctions campaign starts at 3pm.

"Ultimate Auctions promotes a unique range of Queensland holiday experiences, packages and accommodation through an eBay-style platform, with bidding starting at $1 for all deals.

While you have to get in quick for the Ultimate Auctions, with most deals going under the hammer by this Friday, Queensland’s Unreal Deals will be on sale from 19 July to 23 August for travel between July and December.
