Peter being sworn in as the Minister

After my successful re-election campaign, I will return for a fourth term as the Member for Southport. Along with this important role I have been appointed as the new Minister of Tourism and Fair Trading. This position also includes the Racing and Liquor Licensing portfolios.

During my time as Minister I will be visiting tourism icons all over Queensland and this page will keep track of my work. I encourage everyone to follow my travels as the Minister by reading below my entries into the Minister's Diary where I will write about my latest experiences.

Peter Lawlor.

Wanted - Best mates in the World

There is an exciting new twist in the 'Best Job in the World' campaign. Yesterday the Premier and I announced Tourism Queensland will launch a global search for four mates to share exploring the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef with 'Best Job in the World' Island Caretaker Ben Southall. A little under the pump with exploring all 600 islands and 300 coral cays and reporting about his experiences Ben needs some mates who can share in the 'task' with him.

This latest campaign dubbed the 'Best experience in the World' will roll out shortly through www.islandreefjob.com. This unique, money-can't-buy experience to become Ben's mate will be available to anyone from around the world. Since starting a month ago, Ben has done more than 80 media interviews with outlets around the world including - BBC, Le Parisian, CNN, Shanghai Morning Post, the Observer, London's Daily Telegraph and Australia's Today show - all promoting Queensland.

The 'Best job in the World' campaign has been a worldwide success generating more than $330 million in publicity and that is why the Queensland Government has committed an extra $1.9 million to transfer interest from the campaign into visitors and bookings.
