Ministerial Portfolio

Having lived on the Gold Coast for most of his life, Mr Lawlor is well aware of the importance tourism is to the region and to Queensland. Queensland’s tourism industry is facing very challenging times and as Minister for Tourism he is committed to representing the entire state, from Coolangatta to the Cape.

He also has a strong interest in fair trading issues and will continue working to increase consumer confidence and business integrity and will work to develop the liquor, gaming and racing industries in a socially responsible way.

In his role as Minister, Peter has so far overseen a number of notable accomplishments for the Bligh Government:-

This has included the ‘Best Job in the World’ campaign which has generated more than $AUD200 million in publicity value for Queensland and has been internationally recognised through the recipient of awards including three Grand Prix, two Gold Lions and two PR Lions at the prestigious Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

Peter has vowed to continue to monitor the safety standards of licensed venues. With a growing trend of glassing attacks developing in Queensland, Peter has introduced tough new safety laws which has seen restrictions placed on high risk, problem venues. The introduction of tempered or plastic glasses in these venues will help combat the dangerous trend and prevent further injuries occurring to their patrons.
