Parliamentary Speeches - Other Speeches

This page is dedicated to Peter’s speeches during parliament that do not fall under Questions or Questions without notice. They range from debating legislation, reporting on events or issues in his seat of Southport and his Ministerial Statements.

  • Parliamentary Speech – Your Inspiration at Home

Last Wednesday along with the Deputy Premier, Andrew Fraser, I had the pleasure of visiting a local Molendinar business called Your Inspiration at Home to share a tasty plate and hear about the start-up company that is exploding on to the direct marketing scene. Your Inspiration at Home Pty Ltd is a great local success story, having achieved more than $1 million in sales since starting up only 16 months ago. Your Inspiration at Home is a locally owned direct sales company that provides gourmet foods and innovative Kitchenware to add a dash of inspiration to the menus of beginner cooks and dedicated foodies alike.

Launch of new Coast Guard Water Vessel at Southport

On Saturday 6th August I was delighted to represent the Minister for Emergency Services, Neil Roberts, at the launch the Coast Guard Southport’s new Search and Rescue Queensland Water Police Vessel. It will surely make a big difference for the Southport Coastguard in their activities in our local community.

Changes to Body Corporate Lot Entitlements

Well one thing that we have learned from the debate about the Body Corporate & Community Management Bill is that the LNP have ditched all those pensioners and people on fixed incomes who live in units by voting against this bill. They’ve decided to turn their backs on the people who will benefit from this [...]

THE 2011 CELEBRATIONS OF WAITANGI DAY, NEW ZEALAND’S NATIONAL DAY

Ladies and gentlemen, this celebration of New Zealand’s national day comes in the wake of catastrophic events in Queensland which have impacted on all of us. I’m representing Premier Anna Bligh, who regrets her absence, and joins me in wishing you all well in marking this important anniversary in the history of the Pacific.  Many [...]

    Passport to Shine Campaign

More than 220,000 extra Facebook users have been exposed to Queensland’s holiday experiences as a result of Tourism Queensland’s Passport to Shine campaign, which closed earlier this week. Passport to Shine increased the number of connections on the Queensland Facebook page from 34,800 at the beginning of the campaign to a massive 258,500—an impressive result.

Body Corporate and Community Management and other Legislation Amendment Bill

The objective of the bill is to amend the Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997 to do two things. Firstly, it provides a new lot entitlements system for community titles schemes across Queensland. Secondly, the bill provides for a new regulation module designed to meet the needs of people living in schemes with only two lots. There are more than 39,000 community titles schemes across Queensland comprising more than 364,000 lots.

Liqour and Other Legislation Amendment Bill

I present a bill for an act to amend the Adult Proof of Age Card Act 2008, the Bail Act 1980, the Gaming Machine Act 1991, the Liquor Act 1992, the Liquor Regulation 2002 and the Penalties and Sentences Act 1992 for particular purposes and to make consequential amendments of the Police Service Administration Act 1990 and the Public Service Act 2008.

    Passport to Shine

These days people are constantly bombarded by all sorts of advertising, so to cut through all this you need to bring a product front and centre into people’s minds.

    Buy Smart

Earlier this month I informed the House about the impressive entries that the Office of Fair Trading received this year for its annual Buy Smart competition.
