Other Speeches - 2007

Water Amendment Bill

In relation to the Water and Other Legislation
Amendment Bill 2007, I will comment on proposed amendments to the Residential Tenancies Act 1994
which allows lessors to seek full reimbursement of water consumption charges from tenants.

Health Quality and Complaints Commission Select Committee’s report

I lay upon the table of the House the Health Quality
and Complaints Commission Select Committee’s report, Review of the Health Quality and Complaints
Commission and the Health Quality and Complaints Commission Act 2006.

Foster Carers on the Gold Coast

How many foster carers are currently on the Gold Coast and how many children are they caring for?

Criminal Code (Organised Criminal Groups) Amendment Bill

I oppose this bill for several reasons, mainly because
it seeks to penalise people not for their conduct but for with whom they associate. The stated intention of
the bill is to render members of organised criminal groups liable for punishment, even though they may
not have been directly involved in the group’s criminal activity.

Meeting the States Service Demands

My question is directed to the Minister for Health. I refer to the minister’s comments yesterday that Queensland public hospital emergency departments treated record numbers of patients during August. What is the government doing to build Queensland’s emergency department capacity to meet the service demands of a growing and ageing population?

$1200 Grant for Southport Teacher Aid

Southport State School teacher aide Sharon Wicking was today awarded a $1200 grant for professional development in recognition of the support she provides to teachers and students.

Equine Influenza

What about the poor people confined with horses to Warwick? What will it cost them? All of this is as a result of the equine flu and all of it is as a result of the negligence of the Howard
government at the Eastern Creek quarantine facility.

Arundel Police Beat

It was my great pleasure to represent the Minister for
Police and Corrective Services at the official opening of the Arundel police beat on 15 June this year.

Land Court and Other Legislation Amendment Bill

The effect of the Land Court and Other Legislation
Amendment Bill will be to confer the jurisdiction of the Land and Resources Tribunal, except for the
alternative state provisions, on the Land Court.

Justice and Other Legislation Amendment Bill

This bill proposes a range of amendments to
legislation within the justice portfolio to improve the operational efficiency of the legislation.
