Other Speeches - 2009

Ministerial Statement: Schoolies Week

Year 12 students all over Queensland will be finishing high school next week, and I congratulate them on this amazing milestone.

Ministerial Statement: Ecotourism

The Bligh government has made its commitment to the environment and Queensland’s tourism industry very clear.

Trade Measurement Legislation Repeal Bill

In reply: I thank all members for their contributions and support for the amendments contained in this bill. However, I have to say that if Queensland had a boring team the shadow minister would be captain, coach and goal kicker.

Credit (Commonwealth Powers) Bill

I present a bill for an act to refer certain matters relating to the provision of credit and certain other financial transactions to the Parliament of the Commonwealth for the purposes of section 51(xxxvii) of the Commonwealth Constitution, to repeal the Consumer Credit (Queensland) Act 1994 and the regulations under that act, to repeal the Credit Act 1987 and the regulations under that act, to provide for transitional and other matters relating to the referral of those matters and the repeal of those acts and regulations, to continue to provide for a maximum annual percentage rate for credit contracts and to make consequential amendments to the acts mentioned in the schedule.

Ministerial Statement: Glassing

As part of the Bligh government’s commitment to stop glassings and alcohol fuelled violence, a new antiglassing campaign is being launched today targeting Gold Coast patrons.

Ministerial Statement: Mr Leo Williams

I know I speak on behalf of everyone in Queensland’s legal, business, sporting and racing communities when I say that the recent passing of Leo Williams is a major loss to our state.

A1GP

I second the amendment moved by the sports minister. This year’s Nikon SuperGP was a fantastic event for motor sports fans, the Gold Coast economy, local jobs and for Queensland tourism generally.

Ministerial Statement: Tourism Industry Marketing Campaigns

Three recent Tourism Queensland marketing campaigns reported strong results.

Ministerial Statement: Tourism Industry

The Bligh government went to the last election with a promise to build Queensland out of these tough times.

Personal Property Securities (Commonwealth Powers) Bill

I thank all members for their contributions and support for the bill. The Personal Property Securities (Commonwealth Powers) Bill, which I will shorten to the PPS referral bill, provides for the referral of powers to the Commonwealth parliament to make laws for the regulation of personal property securities.
