Parliamentary Speeches - Questions On Notice

Questions on notice are usually asked when a more detailed answer is required and are in writing, and are forwarded by the Clerk of the Parliament to the relevant Minister who prepares a written answer which is presented to Parliament.

  • SEQ Water (Distribution & Retail Restructuring) & Other Leg. A’ment Bill

Mr LAWLOR (Southport—ALP) (4.50 pm): In participating in the debate on the South-East Queensland Water (Distribution and Retail Restructuring) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill, I want to address the success of the government’s consumer price index cap and price monitoring and its continuation for the new council operated water businesses being established. This bill provides [...]

Question Without Notice – Do Not Knock’ Register

Question Without Notice – Do Not Knock’ Register

Mr LAWLOR: My question is to the Attorney-General, Minister for Local Government and Special Minister of State. Can the Attorney-General inform the House of any progress in regard to the ‘do not knock’ register and any recent examples of when this may have been useful for Queenslanders?

    QUESTION ON NOTICE

With reference to the government’s continuing support of natural resource management groups, with funding to assist in improving, restoring and protecting our environment — Will the Minister advise what funding is available to NRM groups for this financial year?

    QUESTION ON NOTICE

    QUESTION:

Will the Minister outline the achievements of the Office of Climate Change over the past twelve months and how it has worked to achieve a cleaner, low carbon Queensland?

Question on Notice – local opportunities provided by our resources sector in regional and rural communities?

As most of our resources deposits are found in regional areas and it is important that these areas also see the benefits provided to the State as a whole by mining projects, will the Minister outline the local opportunities that are being provided by our resources sector in regional and rural communities?

QUESTION ON NOTICE – wild rivers policy

Will the Minister outline the natural values and special places, protected by wild river declarations, as well as the threats to these places if the wild rivers policy was not in place?

QUESTION ON NOTICE – flying fox roosts

With reference to flying fox colonies which are established around Queensland and in some locations there are in excess of 100,000 animals and significant community impact—

What is being done to protect communities from the impact of flying fox roosts?

QUESTION ON NOTICE – Hendra virus

As the Hendra virus and the risk of transmission through flying fox colonies has received a lot of attention, will the Minister advise what role DERM is playing to mitigate the spread of the virus?

    Strategic Cropping Land Bill

I support the Strategic Cropping Land Bill. I would like to address the aspect of extensive consultation that was undertaken in the development of the strategic cropping land policy. In recent times Queensland’s cropping land resources have been subject to increased land use competition across some of the state’s most important economic sectors—the agriculture and resources sectors and the urban development sector. This competition has seen community concerns increase in relation to the effects of development on our best cropping land. In order to achieve a balance between competing interests, the government has undertaken extensive consultation with key stakeholders during development and implementation of the strategic cropping land policy and considered all public feedback. The Queensland government is committed to adopting best practice regulatory principles and to ensuring that new regulatory arrangements are developed in a rigorous and transparent manner.

WATER AND OTHER LEGISLATION AMENDMENT BILL

I support the Water and Other Legislation Amendment Bill. In particular, I would like to address the introduction of the single process framework for water resource planning and the efficiencies and cost savings that will deliver to stakeholders and the government, which has already been touched on by the member for Bulimba.
