$382,406 boost for home and community care services in Southport

Member for Southport Peter Lawlor has announced a $382,406 boost for local home and community care services.

Mr Lawlor said 10 local organisations will share in the new funding, enabling more services for people with a disability and older Queenslanders.

Southport’s Super Sports Day

State Member for Southport Peter Lawlor said families can check out a range of sports on offer and also sign their kids up at the Bligh Government’s Super Sports Day on Sunday 12 February 2012.

“The one-stop shop for sports will be held at Broadwater Parklands from 10am till 1pm, making it easier for Mums and Dads to sign their kids up for winter sports,” Mr Lawlor said.

Mallets ready to swing again at the rebuilt Southport Croquet Club

Southport Croquet Club is on track to reopen on Saturday 11th February with new and improved lawns and in a position to get on board the Gold Coast light rail.

For the last 12 months the Government has carried out early construction works in Southport to prepare the roadway for Stage One of the $1 billion Gold Coast light rail system. As part of these early works it was required that parts of the Southport Croquet Club were relocated.

$85,698 funding boost for multicultural Southport

Southport locals will benefit from a $85,698 funding boost over three years.

Multicultural Affairs Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the funding as part of the Bligh Government’s $4.287 million funding boost into multicultural Queensland.

Jobs boost for 15 Gold Coasters

Two Bligh Government jobs projects coordinated by the Beenleigh PCYC have successfully helped 15 long-term unemployed Gold Coast locals move back into the workforce.

Funded by a $320,000 grant under the Bligh Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, the PCYC ran two parallel ‘Enhancing the Communities’ projects – one in Nerang and a second at the Southport State High School (SSHS) Farm doing repair and rebuilding work.

New Rules around Schools

The kids are back at school and this means that road users need to be vigilant in adhering to road safety in School Zones. The Queensland Department of Transport has commenced a new campaign called ‘New Rules around Schools’

The aim of the campaign is to educate the community about ‘looking for signs and checking the time’. The new times to SLOW DOWN to 40km/h in School Zones are between 7am and 9am and 2pm and 4pm.

Free forum to prepare Gold Coast locals for future neighbourhood disputes

Member for Southport Peter Lawlor has announced a free community information session will be held at the Southport RSL on Monday, 6 February to assist Gold Coast residents understand the new neighbourhood dispute laws.

“The session will provide property owners and tenants with useful information about their rights and responsibilities regarding trees and dividing fences under the new Neighbourhood Disputes Act 2011,” Mr Lawlor said.

Gold Coast has a flourishing and diverse business community, with operators quick to drive new ideas to get a business edge.

Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor said two upcoming workshops would help local business operators stay ahead of trends, with sessions coming up on profitability and customer service.

FUNDING FOR QUEENSLAND REGIONAL EVENTS CLOSING SOON

Events held in regional Queensland have until Friday 17 February to be eligible to receive funding under Round 22 of the Events Queensland Regional Development Program (EQRDP).

The Queensland Government, through Events Queensland, has invested $18.3 million in 856 events since the EQRDP began in 2001.
